Covid-19 Street

When most people are trying to avoid COVID-19, we are buying a house named after it. Well not exactly, but 19 Colvin Street is eerily similar sounding to 19 Covid Street.

So yeah, we bought a house! It is a good feeling, although a little mixed at the moment, due to the current uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. However we have run the numbers and it works out that we will be about $500 a month better off, plus, we will be putting that money into our own place and not someone else’s place.

We have been in Volker St for 9 years, exact to the day, on 6 June 2011. If all goes to plan, our new house settles on 5 June 2020. We are all very excited to have a place to call our own. It is a bit of a downsizing in land area, but still a big enough block at 895m². The house itself is in really good shape considering the old girl was built in the 1960’s.

The previous owner has put new carpets and given it a general freshen up. We plan on turning the rumpus room into a master bedroom with an ensuite and doing a few other cosmetic changes. We plan on building a new garage with a workshop, which will back onto an outdoor eating / entertaining area connecting the house and the garage.

The yard and gardens are well established and will only need a little bit of love to bring back to life. Belinda plans on putting some flowers in the garden, while I’m on fruit and veggie duty. The kids have requested a cubby house, *cough* Uncle Brendan *cough*, with a flying fox, which we might have to compromise a little bit on (not really kids, just saying that so mum is happy). Also a concreted area in on the cards for a basketball court and handball court.

Emma & Ryan have already planned trips to the shops to buy lollies. We are nice and close; only about 600m from the shops. Overall, we are all very happy to finally have a place to call our own and make our own. The only thing left to do now is wait for the COVID-19 restrictions to lift. Then we can finally invite friends and family over to celebrate with us.
